The Aloha Community Library will close early at 5pm on Monday, December 31st and will be closed all day Tuesday, January 1st in observance of New Year's Day. We will close early at 5pm on Thursday, January 3rd for a staff event.
|
Winter Reading Wonderland Children ages 0 to 18 can pick up a game board to play Winter Reading Wonderland starting December 3rd at the library and read through the winter months. Finishing participants will be invited to attend our Winter Reading Wonderland party in February to pick out a free prize book, and will be eligible to enter a grand prize drawing once they've completed their reading challenges.

Toddler Storytime Mondays at 10:30am For ages 18 to 36 months. Toddler Storytime takes place every Monday at 10:30 am! Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, dances, and activities aimed at children between the ages of 18 and 36 months.

Preschool Storytime Wednesdays at 10:30am For ages 3 to 6 years. An interactive storytime for children and their grown-ups filled with stories, songs, rhymes, and activities geared toward getting kids ready to read.

Reading Buddies Mondays, January 14th and 21st from 5:00 to 6:00pm Need practice reading? Sign up for a session of Reading Buddies at the Aloha Community Library! Kids can improve their reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a trained therapy animal. Sessions are 15 minutes each between 5:00 and 6:00 pm. Please contact the library at (503) 259-0185 to register.

STEM Lab: Balloon Cars Wednesday, January 9th from 2:30 to 4:00pm For children ages 5 to 17, with accompanying adults for kids younger than 9. For this STEM Lab, we'll explore physics and engineering concepts as we construct, race, and (yes!) crash balloon powered cars made out of recycled materials.

Art Lab: Snowglobes Wednesday, January 16 from 2:30 to 4:00pm For children ages 5 to 17, with accompanying adults for kids younger than 9. Let's get crafty and construct our very own winter wonderland snowglobes! Kids can create their own winter forest scene using jars, toys, and figurines. Supplies available on a first come, first served basis.

LEGO Free Play Wednesday, January 23rd from 2:30 to 4:00pm For children ages 5 to 17, with accompanying adults for kids younger than 9. Come explore your creativity with LEGOs every 4th Wednesday of the month! Spend the afternoon creating masterpieces out of the legendary colorful building blocks. We'll provide the LEGOs; you provide imagination!

Tech Assistant Sessions Mondays & Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:00pm Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00pm Need assistance with basic computer skills? We can help! Drop in during a regularly scheduled tech assistant session or call to reserve a longer appointment (limit 1 hour per person).

Sit n Stitch Thursdays, January 3 & 17 from 1:30 to 3:00pm Mondays, January 14 & 28 from 6:00 to 7:30pm Bring your knitting, crochet, or other yarn project, and come join the Sit n Stitch group! Trade tips or simply enjoy the company of fellow crafters while you work on your latest creation.

Universal Letter Writing Week Monday, January 14 through Saturday, January 19 The third week in January is Universal Letter Writing Week! When's the last time you wrote a letter by hand? Drop by the library any time this week during open hours – we'll have pens, pencils, stationary, and letter-writing ideas and resources for you to use. Leave your letter with us, and we'll stamp and mail it for you, too!

Owls Wednesday, January 16 @ 6:00 to 7:00pm Winter is a great time to encounter owls! Join us to learn from naturalist Elaine Murphy about different owl species, their behavior, and how to spot them in the wild. Children welcome with accompanying adult(s).

Writers Group Saturday, January 19th from 12:30 to 3:00pm Drop in for a quiet place away from home to hit your word count goal, or to socialize with other local writers. You bring the talent and we'll provide the tea, snacks, and quiet – not to mention a whole building full of research material and inspiration!
