Aloha Community Library Association membership is changing
This page is about membership in the nonprofit organization that operates the Aloha Community Library. If you are looking for information about getting a library card, you can learn more here »
Our membership model is undergoing some changes: We are proud to introduce the new Library Guardians of the Aloha Community Library Association!
The Aloha Community Library Association (ACLA) has been a membership organization since incorporation as a nonprofit in 2011. We place high value on community support for our nonprofit library! Based on updates to ACLA bylaws, we’re making some changes to what it means to be an ACLA member. Plus, we have a new name for our members – the Library Guardians – that we think captures the spirit and dedication of those among our mighty library supporters who are also ready to participate in annual membership meetings and to advocate for the library in the community!
So, what’s new?
Membership in – now Guardianship of! – the Aloha Community Library Association will:
- Run on an annual basis from July 1st – June 30th to align with our fiscal year. You can still join any time during the year, but we’ll ask you to renew your membership by July 1st of each following year. This will help us stay on track with renewal notifications, and keep our roster of Library Guardians organized and up to date!
- Become an opt-in program for those who want to be ACLA Guardians. Since 2018, anyone who donated a certain amount of time or money annually were automatically deemed ACLA members. We are returning to asking those interested to make a conscious commitment and opt in to joining.
- Be open to anyone age 14 and older.
Updated annual dues:
- Those who donate gifts of $25 or more are eligible to become Library Guardians. Please indicate that you would like to apply your gift towards fiscal year 25/26 membership by opting in on the donation form on our website, enclosing a note with your check made out to ACLA, or letting library staff know directly when you donate at our service desk.
- Anyone who volunteers at least five hours during the fiscal year is also eligible to opt into becoming a Library Guardian.
Benefits of Library Guardian membership include
- an invitation to ACLA annual meetings,
- one vote per Guardian at ACLA annual meetings,
- eligibility to join the ACLA Board of Directors,
- invitations to special Library Guardian events, and
- acknowledgement on the library donor appreciation wall.
If you are ready to answer the call and jump in now, there’s no need to wait! Library Guardians who opt in through 6/30/2025 will be entered into our records as members for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
